Here is my presentation in a nutshell.

I showed our Gift of Life Video which is also available on our website. The video gives a great overview of our program, what we do, and the need that continues to exist.

The reason for my presentation was 2-fold: 1) I wanted to thank the club and its members for their support and want them to know and feel that they are a part of what we do and of each child whose life is saved. We are excited that the club is participating in the Matching Grant which will fund the July Medical Mission to El Salvador and look forward to working together on another Matching Grant in the new Rotary year.

2) We are looking to increase Rotary awareness and Rotary involvement for Gift of Life. Nearly all 70 Gift of Life affiliates are supported by Rotarians and Rotary Districts.

Gift of Life LA is a non-profit Rotary based organization that works to save the lives of children afflicted with congenital heart disease. We are one of the larger affiliates of Gift of Life International and are working to develop a sustainable pediatric cardiac program in El Salvador. In 2011, 182 Salvadoran children received a second chance at life. Our goal for 2012 is 200 children. Eleven of the thirteen Rotary Clubs in El Salvador are actively involved in our project. I am President of Gift of Life LA and also sit on the Board of Directors for Gift of Life International.

Gift of Life International is the SECOND LARGEST ROTARY BASED PROJECT WORLDWIDE....second only to Polio Plus. Gift of Life International (GOLI) has programs spanning 70 Rotary Districts on 5 continents. More than 15,000 children afflicted with congenital heart disease (CHD) have received a second chance at life in 67 countries since the inception of GOLI in 1975 by a Rotarian in the Manhassett Rotary Club in New York.

GOLI is working to develop sustainable pediatric cardiac surgery and aftercare programs in Uganda, El Salvador and Jamaica.

Gift of Life LA (GOL LA) is looking to expand our Board of Directors and to create an Advisory Board. We would like to invite Rotarians to join us in our efforts to save children's lives.

Requirements of Board Members:
- be an active participant in monthly Board meetings, decisions made for the organization, fundraising activities and raising awareness in the community and within Rotary
- no specific financial commitment is required. We simply ask that Board members give from their heart (at whatever level they are comfortable with) to heal the heart of another.
- we are looking for members of the community and members of Rotary who are willing to help raise awareness and increase our donor base by approaching your own personal and professional network to help save the lives of more children.
- Board members are encouraged to experience a medical mission however it is not required.

Requirements of Advisory Members:
- we are looking for members of the community and members of Rotary who are willing to help raise awareness and increase our donor base by approaching your own personal and professional network to help save the lives of more children.
- Advisory Board members are not voting members but are welcome to attend Board Meetings if they wish and are encouraged to offer suggestions on how to move the organization forward in the interest of saving more children's lives.
- Advisory Board members will be updated regularly through email and quarterly meetings
- Advisory Board members are encouraged to experience a medical mission however it is not required.

When you heal the heart of a child...your heart will be touched and your life will be changed.

If you are interested in becoming more involved and hearing more about joining the Board or the Advisory Board, please contact Brenda Small at 818-625-7402  or jksmall@pacbell.net
