Our guests this week were the VENTURA COUNTY SHERIFF K9 UNIT

VENTURA COUNTY SHERIFF K9 FOUNDATION

Our guests spoke to us about the counties canine unit, the facts, the details and brought two dogs from the unit. We cannot tell you how much we did not know about the K-9 unit that serves our county. They also told us about their biggest fundraiser coming up VENTURA COUNTY SHERIFF K9 FOUNDATION Golf Tournament  on MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 2023 at Moorpark Country Club, 11800 Championship Dr, Moorpark, CA 93021

ALL OF THE FUNDS RAISED ON BEHALF OF THE K-9 UNIT GO DIRECTLY TOWARD THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT OF OUR K-9 TEAMS. HERE IS HOW YOUR DONATIONS HELP with Specialized Training, Protective Equipment and K-9 Care. Funded solely by private donations and fundraisers, our K-9s follow rigorous training steps in order to develop the skills necessary to protect themselves, their handlers and our community. Our K-9s attend training schools to ensure they are able to work safely and effectively in a variety of scenarios and circumstances. This allows them to develop skills that consistently prove invaluable to our officers’ efforts, but it does require a significant financial investment. The purchase of a dog and initial Patrol and Detection Class is between $18,000-$20,000. Additional classes/courses/conferences after the K9 Team graduates from Patrol and Detection class can range in cost from $500-$4,000. Just like human officers, our K-9s rely on protective gear to keep them safe. The money we raise allows us to purchase a variety of important equipment for our K-9s, including ballistic vests, paw protection, cooling equipment and lifting harnesses. We are committed to providing high-quality care for our K-9s throughout their careers and retirement. This means ensuring that they have the food, equipment, veterinary care and ongoing training they need to lead happy, healthy lives. For each K-9, this requires an investment of approximately $4,000 per year.
