Help Me Inspire!

A Month in Review!

July was a powerhouse kickoff to the new Rotary year! We started strong with our July 4th Parade, led brilliantly by Ashley and Scott for their first project. At our kickoff meeting we launched our 2026–2027 Board, President James dad and wife, gave a memorable presidential roast. We upgraded our systems to NOVA and hit the ground running with hands-on service: delivering 150 pairs of shoes to James Storehouse (featured on KCLU!) and stuffing over 700 backpacks with Art Trek and Safe Passages, and partnered with Meals on Wheels for our weekly meal distributions to the elderly.  Our recent meetings featured Danielle Borja from the Conejo Chamber, sustainable farmer Lisa Soury, the launch of my 2026 Service Hours Challenge, and a full-club rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin’”! Looking ahead, we’re recruiting an Environment Lead, gearing up for the James Storehouse Back-to-School Bash, Backpack Stuffing at CVUSD.  Let's keep inspiring our community and make this an unforgettable year!

We are Dark Wednesday July 29th

July 8th - Speaker - Rob R Shipe

President James Shipe's Dad Rob along with James Wife Andie roasted the new president.  They gave some insight as to why the club should have asked them first prior to electing James as the new president. Lightheaded and Fun along with many laughs might have the make the board reverse their decision?

July 22nd - Speaker Lisa Tate Soury

Our club was honored to host Lisa Tate Soury, Director of Operations and owner of Rancho Filoso Farm in Santa Paula. Lisa provided an engaging presentation on women in agriculture, local history, and how her family continues to innovate while upholding over a century of farming tradition in Southern California.

Celebrating Independence Day Together: 4th of July Parade Success

Our club was thrilled to participate in and help support Westlake Village’s annual 4th of July Parade and Park Event! Rotarians joined friends, family, and neighbors dressed in their best red, white, and blue as we marched down Lakeview Canyon Road to Berniece Bennett Park. It was an incredible morning spent serving our community, handing out treats, and connecting with local families enjoying the festivities. A massive thank you to all the club members who came out early to help coordinate and show that Rotary spirit in action!

Stepping Up for Foster Youth: 150 Shoes Donated to James Storehouse

Our club successfully secured and delivered 150 brand-new pairs of shoes to James Storehouse! These shoes will directly benefit local foster youth as they prepare for the upcoming school year. To see this project through to the finish line, we are looking for volunteers to help hand out the shoes to children during the James Storehouse Back-to-School Bash on August 1st. If you’re available to lend a hand and make a difference in a child’s day, please reach out directly to join our volunteer team!

Equipping Students for Success: The Operation Backpack Stuffing Drive

In an inspiring display of community collaboration, our club partnered with neighboring local Rotary clubs, Art Trek, and Safe Passage to host our annual backpack stuffing event. Together, dedicated volunteers gathered at Art Trek’s studio in Newbury Park to assemble and pack over 700 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. By joining forces across our Rotary network, we ensured that local youth will walk into the new school year fully prepared, supported, and ready to learn. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to put "Service Above Self" into action for our area's students!

Call to Action: Become Our Club's Environment Lead!

Protecting the Environment is officially one of Rotary's core Areas of Focus, and our club is looking for a passionate volunteer to serve as our Environment Lead! You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who cares about sustainability and bringing people together. In this role, you'll help spot local green projects (like park cleanups or tree plantings), keep us updated on grant opportunities, partner with local eco-groups, and help weave sustainable practices into our club's service efforts. Note: To keep our leadership well-distributed, we are looking for a member who does not currently hold a club role. If you're ready to make a lasting local impact, reply to this email to step up!
