Multi-Past-President Ed Pope started his marathon day, performing the first of his tasks as “Foundation Chair” for our club, and also “Foundation Area Representative” for District 5240. His presentation included handouts to become a benefactor. So inspired by him was she, that Edna Murphy immediately put pen to paper and signed up! Good work, Ed!
Benefactor: when you include the Endowment Fund as a beneficiary in your estate plans, or when you donate $1,000 or more to the fund outright. Benefactors receive a certificate and insignia to wear with a Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin.
Our club has 10 current members who are benefactors. And when you include past members and family members, RCWV has 35 benefactors.
Ed Pope – now serving as Membership Chairperson - made a nearly immediate return to the podium, and called upon Sponsor Steve Kerrigan to bring up Brian Hynes. Brian Hynes is the newest member of our Rotary Club. He brings youthful enthusiasm, a great attitude, and is fresh off the heels of the 2nd annual OakHeart Country Music Festival. As proprietor of Borderline Bar and Grill, Brian can probably expect to see a whole lot more of us at future socials. Brian’s induction was extra special, as DG Jack McClenahan assisted with the official induction duties. Welcome, Brian! Good work, Steve!
After a brief respite, the crowd demanded an encore, and Ed obliged, reprising his role as Foundation Chairperson for the presentation of – not one, but – TWO Paul Harris Fellowships.
President Jeanne Archer assisted this time, and we honored both our own Steve Kerrigan, and Jeanne’s mother, Edna Murphy. Rotarians often designate a Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of The Rotary Foundation. Edna’s PHF was made to the Annual Fund.
Both Steve and Edna were presented with the three emblems of appreciation given to a Paul Harris Fellow - - certificate, medallion and pin.
Paul Harris Fellow, when you give $1,000 or more to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant. To recognize someone else as a Paul Harris Fellow, you can give that amount in their name. You are recognized as a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow with each additional gift of $1,000.
Our club offers the option of paying in installments. If you are interested in participating this way, contact our Foundation chair (Ed Pope), and he’ll get you set up. You can contribute as little as $25 a month. When you hit the “$500” mark (and, of course, are current with all your invoices) you are eligible to be matched by our club toward a $1000 PHF.

Jack’s program covered the history of women in Rotary, both before and after the Supreme Court ruling a quarter-century ago. Jack managed to manipulate us into a rousing standing ovation as he wrapped up the afternoon.

Our Board of Directors and Avenues of Service met with District Governor Jack McClenahan and Assistant Governor Richard Williams on Wednesday morning. After introductions all around, the conversation focused on: our international projects, "career path" for the Youth Service Rotary projects, and innovative Fundraising ideas. It was a strong showing of our Club's leadership team. Thank you all for participating at this early event.
Jack McClenahan joined the Rotary Club of Santa Paula in 1978. He has since been a member of the Rotary Clubs of Ojai, Moraga, and finally Ojai-West.
Before Jack and Jane and family moved to southern California, he was a high school teacher and coach in Berkeley for 12 years.
After leaving the classroom, Jack worked in educational fund development for 32 years, mainly at his Alma Mater Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. He is now retired.
He was Rotary Club of Ojai’s “Club Secretary” for five years, and Rotarian of the Year in 1987-88. He was the club’s voting delegate to international conventions in Munich in 1987, and in Philadelphia in 1988. With Jane, he has attended twelve Rotary conventions, often serving as District promotions chair or co-chair.
After joining the Rotary Club of Ojai-West, he was fundraising chair for the club’s Rotary Centennial project, Rotary Community Park. He served as Club President in 2005-06. He has been a participant and/or presenter at ten President-Elect Retreats, eleven President-Elect Training Seminars (known as PETS), numerous District Mid-Terms, Assemblies, Membership Seminars, and Foundation Seminars.
Jack served as Chief Operating Officer for District Governor Frank Ortiz in 2012-13 until being selected as District Governor Nominee. On the multi-district level, he was a Director of The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee Incorporated from 2007 to 2013; and he was a 2012-13 Director of Southern California and Nevada PETS Inc.
Jack and 2007-2008 Past District Governor Jane are Rotary Foundation Major Donors, Benefactors, and multiple Paul Harris Fellows, as well as donors to the Rotary Club of Ojai-West Foundation. Married since 1966, they have three daughters and eight grandchildren.
