His wife Nancy passed away recently. Bob Phillips, Andy Lupanow and DeAnn Justesen all said brief nice stories about him Nancy Y. TowleThousand Oaks - The lights went out for Nancy York Towle on November 29, 2019. For more than half a century, Nancy and her late husband Milton A. Towle were residents of Thousand Oaks. Nancy Louise York grew up near Springfield, Vermont where in 1955 she and Milton Towle married. The newlyweds then relocated to California, residing first in San Louis Obispo, and later in Redding. In 1965, when Scripps Newspapers promoted Milton to Business Manager of the Conejo Valley News (later renamed the News Chronicle), they arrived in Thousand Oaks. For many years, Nancy and Milton were well known for their community involvement. Nancy was active in a variety of service organizations including the Westlake Women's Club where her lengthy committee work included awarding college scholarships to hundreds of deserving students. Milton was a Charter Member of the Westlake Village Rotary Club, President of the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, and President of the California Newspaper Advertising Executives Assn. On February 25, 2019, after sixty four years of marriage, Nancy lost her beloved husband. Nancy is survived by one brother, David York of Chicago, IL. Nancy's parents, Margaret and Myron York of Springfield, VT predeceased her, as did her brothers Robert York of Belvedere, CA and William York of Charlestown, NH. Arrangements are handled by Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Funeral Home, Westlake Village, CA 91362I. In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal services. Interment will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Springfield, VT, the resting place of her husband, Milton, and her parents and brothers. Dapper Spar announced that Stonehaus will be more involved in the Street Fair, April 26. Erin Culbertson said the annual Holiday Party will be Friday at Steve Kerrigan’s. Erin also did Troika and had three new members pull cards out of a jar to meet with members. Mary Olsen talked the Peace Project. We are part of a the “ Peace Builder District.” Our local project is with Safe Passage and Tim Hagel. On Martin Luther King’s birthday, 1/20/20, 100 children from K-5 will be taken to the Reagan Library to participate in a variety of activities to learn what peace is. Art Trek is partnering with us and Safe Passage for this event. Audrey Brown thanked everyone who participated in the Westlake Village Sing-A-Long the past Sunday. She also announced that Jan Zegel was the Super Hero of the month. Jan Zegel won the “ Winning Wednesday’s “ basket. Program  Speaker was Scott Morris owner of 805 Goats. Scott said that he started thinking about the business 4 years ago at a Toast Masters meeting. He saw the need for brush clearance in our area. The death rate was very high to have goats trucked down from Northern California. The advantages of goats do the brush clearance are no flies , they leave the roots(sheep pull them out,and no harmful chemicals. Scott owns 800 goats. He was hired by the Reagan Librabry to do brush clearance and showed pictures from the recent fire and it stopping at the clearance break. It took 3 weeks to clear the area around the library. His goats can work steep areas that are hard to get to. They first setup a parameter with an electric fence mostly to keep out predators. Also they a need a water source but no shelter as they only shelter in sub-Zero weather and torrential rain. The goats eat almost all brush except for Lavendar. They love poison ivy. It takes 130 goats 1 ½ days to eat 1 acre of brush. Scott charges $5000-$8000 for 5 acres of clearance. He has a 1-2 acre minimum. Goats are pretty hardy animals with the only real problem being a stomach bacteria that needs to be watched for. They live 12-13 years. There needs to be 1 buck for every 25 females and there needs a new buck every year.  Service Above Selfie: None  Rotarian Socials: Comedy night is being planned for January.  Rotarians In Newspapers, Magazines and Social Media: Kelly Honig - The City of Westlake Village welcomed Councilmember Kelly Honig as mayor for the first time during a swearing-in ceremony Dec. 4. She becomes the third woman mayor in the Conejo-Las Virgenes region, fourth if you count Malibu Mayor Karen Farrer. Calabasas and Agoura Hills will be led in 2020 by mayors Alicia Weintraub and Illece Buckley Weber, respectively. Honig, who joined the Westlake council in 2015, took the leadership reins from 12-year Councilmember Ned Davis. She was voted in as mayor unanimously. The City Council also selected Sue McSweeney, the longest serving member of the panel since 2001, as mayor pro tem. “Together, we have a lot to look forward to in 2020,” Honig said. “This coming year, Westlake Village will be 39 years old. We’ll continue our recovery from the Woolsey fire and celebrate as our residents continue to rebuild and move into their new homes. We’ll enjoy our new YMCA and the community park that we’ve joined together in building. We’ll walk on our new Lindero (Canyon Road) sidewalk. We’ll enjoy the beautiful views of the lake, ride the trolley, attend a concert in the park and continue to enjoy the many special amenities our city has to offer.”
