All Club members are welcome. Sign up for our Summer Social - an evening featuring a Musical Journey with the Beatles; July 13, 2018; 5:30-10:00 pm at the Ronald Reagan Library. The evening will begin with appetizers, followed by a gourmet buffet dinner and exquisite desserts. You will also be able to tour the museum, Air Force One and the Genghis Kahn Exhibit. Gary Dickey will be honored as the 2018 Patriotic Citizen of the Year at the Red, White and Blue Ball at the Reagan Library, Saturday, June 23rd at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to attend. Bryan, Troy and staff were thanked for an amazing job at OakHeart . There are no pictures of Bryan or Troy because they were too busy running around!  Fines: Fining is Fun Kelly Honig Ken was fined $25 because it is his birthday.
Ruth was fined $25 for a recent trip to Italy.
Lee was fined $30 for a working cruise two weeks ago.
Brad was fined $25 for interrupting the Fine Master.
Gary was fined an amount TBD because he left early. Happy Dollars: Patrick Patrick because his mom was able to visit on Mother’s Day and it was a great visit. Also, because the studs and walls are starting to go up at the YMCA.
Audrey was happy that her daughter in New York has a new job title and that she is a new puppy Grandmother.
Dapper gave Happy Dollars for the OakHeart festival and his booth doing better at beer sales than the other one.
Craig was happy that his daughter got 2 service awards at Senior Awards night but he didn’t know what they were for and that Charles Bloomquist was there.
Kimmy was happy that she doesn’t have to pay for preschool anymore with Lily’s graduation this morning.
Andy was happy for the Borderline Boys and his daughter getting a new job.
Erin was happy to see Charles and for her daughter starting a new job.
Mike gave happy dollars for his new tooth and new lisp. Rotary Ah-Ha Moments - Patrick stated that he had reached out to Christina to help with Meals on Wheels and was told she is set with volunteers for a while. He was impressed that so many people in this club help others.
Brad said that he and Marjorie were traveling in England and found a small Rotary to attend. Marjorie had ancestors in that town. The next day as they traveled through the town Brad realized most of the people they met in the shops, the bank and florist were the same people they met at the Rotary. It seemed the whole town was Rotarian.
Harold stated that he has seen signs of Rotary in his travels around the world. He once saw a small school with a plaque that said "Built by Rotary." And another time he saw a banner that said,”Rotary Fights Polio.”

Kelly introduced today's guest speaker, Dr. Blake Brisbois. Dr. Brisbois is a clinical psychologist in private practice at Engage Therapy. Engage is comprised of a large private practice that treats children, adolescents and adults who need support. Dr. Brisbois spoke to us about the newer problems with teens and young adults becoming addicted to gaming and social media. He began by telling us that the same brain chemistry is active when a person is gaming that is active when a person takes cocaine or alcohol. South Korea has had people die from gaming because they forgot to eat or drink. Our brains are wired to seek novelty, and gaming and online activities do that. Research has shown that we are now averaging 8 hours a day on our devices. Dr. Brisbois said that technology is impacting our children in a rich fashion. The younger kids now have instant access to their friends. Dr. Brisbois stated that when he was young, he would call a friend and get the answering machine and leave a message. Now children text and expect an instant answer. When they don’t get it they worry something is wrong or that the friend is mad at them. He said that we need to teach our children a tolerance for boredom and awkwardness. They are an inherent part of growing up. Dr. Brisbois said that social media is a “highlight reel.” We put our best on social media. Some young people look at it and brush it off and others use it to compare themselves and say they aren’t good enough.
There is a game called Fortnite is very popular now and it is designed to be addictive. It has little steps to hook you in, like a rewards for playing everyday and being on the leader board. Kids play because of the rewards, not because they enjoy the game. He said if you take away the reward system, it may take away the addiction, and kids may play just for the enjoyment of the game. It was fascinating discussion about issues that seem to be increasing in our technological world.
