President Ray Taylor welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the March 11, 2015 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.

 

President Ray Taylor led the flag salute.

PP Brad Ormsby and PP Bill Nothoff led the club in singing “God Bless America.”

Charles Bloomquist provided the invocation and then President Taylor asked the club to take a moment of silence in remembrance of Bruce House’s wife Sally who recently passed away.

 

President Taylor asked new members Kerry Kallman and Harold Hyman to come to the front of the room to receive their “Blue Badge.”  As holders of the coveted Blue Badge, both were asked to spin the “Wheel of Misfortune.”  Sadly, the club’s favorite number (#9 President Pays) did not come up.

 

 

Charles Bloomquist reported that all Meals and Wheels slots are covered for March.  April sign-ups are being passed out.  We are working on posting Meals on Wheels assignment on the website.  But for now thank you to the following for signing up to drive in March:

We are four weeks away from the big event.  Planning is going great.  Thanks to Naomi Finkel marketing materials are starting to get out there.  Kimmy Sharpe and Todd Fisher have done a great job in securing close to $10,000 in sponsorships.  The entertainment line-up will be the best ever thanks to Charles Bloomquist and Poornima Prasad.  And Dapper Spar and gang promise amazing craft beer selection.  If you plan to work the Street Festival, (do we have a choice? Nope!) please get in contact with Karen Quigley who is overseeing volunteers.

 

 

 

 

Instead we will be meeting at NRCC at noon with a special appearance by the New West Symphony.  You don’t want to miss this one.

 

A sign-up sheet for the Group 4 Work Day at the Conejo Valley YMCA on March 21 was passed around.  Join neighboring Rotarians in giving the Conejo YMCA a spruce up.

 

Join President Elect Dapper Spar at the District Assembly at Pacifica High School in Oxnard on March 28 from 7:30 am – 12:00 pm.  This event is open to all interested Rotarians and let’s face it, Dapper will need all the support he can get!   Click here for more information. 

 

 

Another great Group 4 project is coming our way.  Old Meadows Park in Thousand Oaks, which already has many unique play elements designed for children with special needs, hopes to upgrade there facility once again with new and expanded equipment.  There will be a fundraiser event on Saturday, April 18.  Our club is hoping to support this great cause with a full table.  Click here for more information. 

 

Incoming President Dapper Spar will be hosting three “Fireside Chats” in the coming months through the help of Bill Hang.  Fireside Chats gives all members a chance to connect with the incoming President in an informal setting to discuss their thoughts on the upcoming Rotary year.  Current President Taylor promised Dapper 100% attendance by all club members. 

 

Patricia Jones, a fellow Rotarian from the Thousand Oaks Club, presented information on aging in place and finding freedom at home.  Her company, Helping Hands, assists families by placing certified and skilled caregivers in homes.
