President Ray Taylor welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the November 19, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.
Blaine Ostrander led the flag salute.
Bob Marshall led the club in an ever improving rendition of “God Bless America.”

Group 4 Thanksgiving Meal Deliveries

Annual Holiday Party – Date Change

Join fellow Rotarians at the Westlake Village home of Dapper Spar for a fun night. You will need three items to be let into the party: (1) unwrapped toy; (2) appetizer or side dish; and (3) your favorite holiday spirit. More info to come.
Rivalry Week
Saturday is the big day. The battle for L.A. USC vs. UCLA. Whose side are you on? Incoming President Dapper “Trojan” Spar or President Ray “Bruin” Taylor?
A few facts about the rivalry:

The first football game between USC and UCLA was played on September 28, 1929 (USC won 76-0)

USC leads the overall series 44—30 with 7 ties

Terry Donahue, UCLA coach 1976-1995 used to live in North Ranch on the gold course. Westlake High and USC alumni Gary Wellman who went on to play three seasons in the NFL, made it a point to chip a USC logo golf ball into Coach Donahue's backyard pool every time he played golf at North Ranch.
Club members were asked to make a prediction and wager a minimum of $20. At the conclusion of the game, one name from the winning side will be chosen and that lucky Rotarian will take home 25% of the pool, with the other 75% being donated to the
K9's for Warriors project. A total of $950 was raised at this week's meeting.
Stephanie is rooting for Colorado.
New Member Induction
PP Ed Pope welcomed two new members to the club. KimmyThorpe, a local banker was sponsored by President Ray Taylor and Todd Fisher who is a local realtor, was sponsored by Bob and Marion Marshall.
Kimmy and Todd represent the sixth and seventh new members this year and we are well on our way to averaging one new member during this Rotary year.
Program
PP Ed Pope presented a detailed overview of the International Rotary Foundation. The Foundation began in 1928 and took off after the passing of Rotary founder Paul Harris. Since 1978, the Foundation has led efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.
Club Dark
