Meeting Notes

 

President Ray Taylor welcomed fellow Rotarians to the November 5 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.

Nadine Larson led the Flag Salute.

Steve Kerrigan led the group in an increasingly improved version of “God Bless America.”

Charles Bloomquist provided the invocation.

 

PP Brad Ormsby welcomed the following guests:

President Taylor kicked things off by asking new member Pete Toussi to spin the Wheel of Misfortune.  Pete stopped the streak of “No Fine” in a big way when he spun #2 resulting in a double fine for Pete.  Poor Pete has been a member for less than a month and already levied a double fine.  Welcome aboard!

 

Kerry Kallman made several very important announcements regarding the City of Westlake Village:

#1 – In & Out is open.

#2 – Hook Burger across from In & Out has a great selection of craft beer.

#3 – Kerry is a health nut. 

 

A very special Plant Tour has been scheduled for November 12.  The Club will be dark at North Ranch that afternoon; instead we will be meeting at the new California Lutheran University dining commons.   Parking will be tricky, so please make every effort to carpool.  The best place to park will be at the athletic facility parking lot (Map Location #31) off of Olsen Road.  The walk to the dining commons is not far from there.  In addition there is limited handicapped parking available in front of the dining commons (Map Location #104.)  Click here for a map of parking and the dining hall.   Special thanks goes to Mary Olsen for arranging the tour and lunch.  I hope its chicken!  Speaking of chicken, I thought the chicken pasta this week was excellent.

 

Audrey Oland could not make the meeting, and asked President Taylor to ask for volunteers for Meals on Wheels.  Kyle Griffith is covering November 22 and Charles Bloomquist November 29.  Thanks for stepping up. 

 

Conejo Valley Rotary is looking for volunteers for their “Opportunity Knocks” program.  Designed to match up vocational mentors with Rotaract students, "Opportunity Knocks" is specifically looking for Rotarians with a background in Social Work and Marketing.  If you think you can help, please contact President Ray Taylor. 

 

Please note the Club’s Holiday Shopping Spree is now scheduled for Saturday, December 6.  Don’t miss this incredible service opportunity that matches Rotarians with a local needy family as they shop for clothes and other essentials at the Westlake Village Target. 

 

Dapper Spar is seeking volunteers to assist with planning for an upcoming Group 4 fundraiser.  The Group 4 Clubs have set a goal to raise enough money to train two new canines as part of the K9’s for Warriors project.  Please let Dapper know if you would like to help with this event.

Bill Hang is happy to be traveling to San Francisco to see his grandkids and attend grandparents day at their school.

PP Andy Lupanow is happy to be sitting next to Pete Toussi who is as smart as Andy. (actually smarter!)

Bob Marshall is happy his daughter and grandson are visiting.

PP Brad Ormsby is happy because he loved Stephanie’s short story about Jury Duty.

 

PP Ed Pope will be hosting a committee meeting on November 22 at 4 pm.  Rumor has it that committee meetings at Ed’s house are legendary.  Let Ed know if you would like to attend.

 

PP Bill Nothoff selected two topics for his Nott Breakfast presentation.  First, PP Gary Dickey provided a wonderful PowerPoint presentation on Vocational Service.  Gary did a thorough job explaining vocation service and what it means to the club and members.  Next, Dapper Spar spoke about Club Service.  Dapper did not have a PowerPoint or handouts, but I think we understood what he was saying.

Well at least Dapper dressed up for his presentation and wore his badge!  Isn't the bag piper quite photogenic!
