Homer Dickerson Youth Ethics and Leadership Conference
The 17th Homer Dickerson Youth Ethics Conference,  in memory of United Methodist minister and Rotarian Homer Dickerson, who died in 1991, was held on the campus of CLU on March 6.  Chaired by PP Bill Notthoff and Russ Stone, this year's event brought together students from 8 local high schools.
The students gathered for breakfast and introductions before taking part in round-table discussions on under-age driving, and improper acquisition of special parking permits. Teachers and Rotary Club members facilitated the groups.
Opening remarks from PP Karen Quigley were followed by the introduction of Past District Governor Wade Nomura, who told the attending students about Interact and involvement in service.
Keynote Speaker Terry Paulson delivered compelling data on studies into human behavior, and how obedient and easily affected by our surroundings we can be.  He challenged everyone to create their own 'page' of ethical behavior, and find their own "non-negotiable" ethical items.

District Assembly for 2014-2015 - for all club members
The District Assembly is a training opportunity for club leaders.  Board members and Avenues of Service will benefit most from attending.  However, this is open to all members, and is a great opportunity to learn about serving the club in future years.  If you haven't already met with PE Ray about your areas of interest, reach out now and discuss District Assembly as it applies to you.
The District Assemblies are fast approaching with an opportunity for your team of board members and club leaders to join others in the District to learn and share best practices about their areas of responsibility.  This collaboration and exchange will provide the opportunity for a more enjoyable and successful year for our members.
Two District Assemblies have been scheduled:

Saturday, March 29, Pacifica High School, Oxnard, CA from 8:00 to 12:30

Saturday, April 12, Bakersfield College, Bakersfield, CA from 8:00 to 12:30

There is NO COST to the club for its members to attend either District  Assembly.

Assemblies this year will be half day starting at 8:00 am and going until approximately
12:30 pm.  This will leave time for you
to get together as a group over lunch or coffee and discuss the morning’s information and make plans for the upcoming year.

Continental breakfast and check in will begin at 8:00 am.  At 8:45 am, transfer to General Session beginning promptly at 9:00 am.

9:00 am – 10:00 am General Session

10:00 am – 10:15 am Transfer to breakout sessions

In some cases, we are combining positions to maximize the point of collaboration needed between these club positions.

10:15 am – 11:15 am

  • Presidents with DG Jack

  • Presidents Elect with DGE Loretta
  • Presidents Elect Nominee with DGN Jim

--------------------

  • Treasurer and Rotary Foundation

  • Global Community Service and Grants
  • Club Service, Membership and Secretary
  • Vocational Service
  • Youth Service/Rotaract

11:15 am  - 11:30 am – Break

11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Resume breakout session with panel discussion of best practices, collaboration and exercises.

Also new this year, in Oxnard, an Introduction to PRLS class will be available in
the morning  for Rotarians who have been in Rotary less than one year.
A second Introduction to PRLS class will be held in the afternoon for people who attended  sessions that conflicted with the morning class.  Encourage your new members who have not been through the Introduction to PRLS class to come to the District Assembly with you, expand their Rotary knowledge, and make new friends.

Email rotaryjeanne@yahoo.com to register.
