President Ray Taylor welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the April 1, 2015 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.

 

Ken Snow led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Jack Dwyer asked the club to join him in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in honor of Babe Ruth’s birthday.
Nadine Larson provided a beautiful spring themed invocation.

Brad Ormsby welcomed Armando Loranzo and Kimmy Tharpe’s guests.
 
World Traveler?
Andy Lupanow recently visited Egypt or whatever.  He said he saw all the sights, pyramids, Sphinx, white tigers, and a huge tower with a roller coaster on top.  Nobody had the heart to tell him he was actually in Vegas.

 

Logo Golf Shirts
Ken Snow is organizing a nice golf style polo shirt with the Rotary logo.  Gary Dickey wanted to make sure that his shirt had a pocket.

 

New West Symphony Tickets
The New West Symphony donated two tickets to an upcoming performance.  Dapper Spar led a lively auction that saw Bob Marshall walking away with the tickets while making a nice donation to the Club's Rotary Foundation.  Thanks Bob!

 

Street Festival
Ten days (actually eight now) and counting to the big event.  Kerry Kallman reported that things are looking great for the annual street festival.  There are over 70 booths sold and the event is getting great publicity.  Karen Quigley is overseeing manpower for the event.  Please review this document for your work assignment. 

 

 

Blaine Ostranger
Proving the turtle wins the race, Blaine was presented with his Blue Badge.  In honor of this very important occasion, President Taylor asked Blaine to spin the Wheel of Misfortune. He landed on #19 which resulted in a fine for the person sitting to his right, Naomi Finkle.

 

 

Blaine Again
Blaine kept going and updated the club on the K9's for Warriors fundraising effort.  The $30,000 goal has been met!  This will provide enough funds for the purchase, training, and placement of two dogs with two deserving veterans.  The fundraising effort is not over as the goal has been increased in an effort to provide a third and possibly fourth dog.  A special fundraiser will be held at Bellini’s restaurant in Westlake Village on April 16.  Contact Blaine for more information. 

 

More Blaine
The only way President Taylor could get the microphone away from Blaine was by presenting him with a college fund head start for Baby Jack.  Thank you to all club members who participated.

In the News

Two Rotarians were “caught” and subsequently fined for being in the news.  Kimmy Tharpe, who in addition to being a mom, bank executive, and great Rotarian finds time to visit local elementary schools to teach students how to save their money.  What do you get for all of your efforts?  A $10 fine. 

 

Dr. Bill Hang moved his orthodontic practice, held a ribbon cutting ceremony, ended up in the Chamber of Commerce newsletter, and failed to mention Rotary.  Triple fine for the good doctor.

 

Program
Gary Dickey led the second session of Vocational Potpourri.  We learned several interesting things, including what Geocaching is all about, President Taylor is the ideal boss, and Poornima loves talking on a microphone.
