President Ray Taylor welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the January 14, 2015 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.

Jack Dywer led the club in singing “America the Beautiful”

Jim Campbell provided the invocation.

President Ray Taylor levied a $5 fine to Jim Campbell for a newspaper article announcing his new position as president and CEO of the Cancer Support Community.

 

Another fine of $10 was given to Bill Notthoff as his lovely wife Sandy was in the newspaper for her participation at the Club’s Holiday Shopping Spree.

 

To top it off, Ken Snow was fined $15 for his quote (no picture) in the paper.

Linda Levine thanked the club for its overwhelming donations of blankets and towel for sheltered pets.

 

Kerry Kallman provided an update on the planning for the April 12 Street Festival.   New members Kimmy Tharpe and Todd Fisher will be handling sponsorship.  Eighteen members showed up at the meeting.

 

The club was honored to be the first club in the district to be visited for the second time by this year’s District Governor Loretta Butts (Editor’s note – In my world, a second visit by the “boss” is not an honor.)

 

Governor Butts made three special presentations.

 

PP Edwin Velarde was honored for his involvement in the “Epic Challenge" Bike Ride at the District Conference.  Edwin’s fundraising efforts led the pack as the event raised over $100,000.  Governor Butts presented Edwin with a Paul Harris Fellow in honor of his late mother Consuelo Areval Velarde.  Click here for a nice bio on Mrs. Velarde.

 

 

 

Governor Butts also presented a certificate of appreciation to PP Jeanne Archer for her efforts as Club President in 2013/14 towards the End Polio campaign.

 

Finally, Governor Butts asked all U.S. veterans in the room to come up as she presented them with a District 5240 commemorative coin and thanked them for their years of service to both our country and Rotary.

 

 

 

Audrey Brown introduced Westlake Village Councilmember Mark Rutherford and former Mayor.  Mark played a video titled 2014 Mayor’s Year in Review that presented highlights from this past year in the City.  Several Rotarians made cameo in the video including PP Jeanne Archer, PP Ed Pope, and Charles Bloomquist.
