President Ray Taylor welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the October 22, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.

DeAnn Justesen led the flag salute.

Bill Hang led a wonderful rendition of “God Bless America.”

Mary Olson provided the invocation.

 

PP Brad Ormsby welcomed the following guests:

Brad held onto the mic long enough to congratulate Jim Campbell on receiving his amateur radio license.

 

President Taylor reported Harvey Magidow is recovering from surgery to his broken tibia. Get well soon Harvey. 

 

Jack Dwyer reported that 143 volunteers assisted on the creation of almost a new mile of trail during last weekend’s Trail Work Day.

 

Lee Ginsburg spun the wheel and landed on #4.  No Fine yet again. 

 

The amazing Mary Olson led a round of Happy Dollars and collected the following:

President Ray Taylor – Happy Dollar for Brian Hynes for buying Ray a beer at the Dance for Drew event.  It seems that Brian has learned what Ray’s staff learned long ago, “the key to Ray’s heart is a free beer!”

Kerry Kallman – Happy Dollar for his wife Michelle’s birthday.

Dapper Spar – Sad Dollar for his son who got his first ticket one week after getting his drivers license.

PP Jeanne Archer – Sad Dollar for her daughter who is gone on a one week school trip.

Jack Dwyer - Happy Dollar for he and his wife as they will be visiting his sister in Lake Tahoe and hope to get in some snow Mountain Biking.

PP Andy Lupanow - $3 Happy Dollars (1) He visited his daughter at Harvey Mudd college and was happy to report that he did not understand a thing she was studying, (2) for Ray Taylor for doing a great job as President (Andy, Ray prefers free beer), and (3) for Mary Olson “She Knows Why.”

PP Ed Pope - Happy Dollar for a wonderful day he spent last Saturday with Dolores Randell.

Jim Campbell - Happy Dollar for his son, who is an EMT for his University, who saved the life of a seizure victim who stopped breathing.

PP Brad Ormsby – Sad Dollar – for Jack Dwyer who will not run into Brad’s wife while in Tahoe.

Nida Brown - Happy Dollar – for her cousin’s film “Life is Easy with Your Eyes Closed” being nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar.

 

The club’s social committee has been busy organizing and planning a host of upcoming social events:

 

Halloween Social – Last Call to sign up for this great event at KCLU.  Don’t miss this special night complete with food, beer, wine, pumpkin carving, and fellowship.  There will be a costume contest for those of you that dare.  If you plan to attend and have not RSVP’d, email Jim Campbell at jcampbell.spg@earthlink.net, no later than Friday, October 24.

 

Holiday Party – Dapper and Stephanie Spar will be hosting the club’s Holiday Party on Friday, December 5.  More details coming.

Mary Olson welcomed California Lutheran University Political Science Professor Dr. Herbert Gooch.  Dr. Gooch is the “go-to-guy” in the Conejo Valley for local politics and government affairs.  He provided an overview of the upcoming election, it’s possible impacts and outcomes.
