Peace Day Camp on Presidents Day!
The purpose was to get the children who attended this event to think about peace and conflict resolution which they were enjoying the day at camp. This very special day February 19, 2024 was put on by the Rotary Club of Westlake Village, Safe Passage, the Conejo Recreation and Park District, and Art Trek. Mary Olson, Rotary Peace Chair and organizer of the event was overjoyed at the participation.
There were over 100 children from Conejo Valley schools with about 30 volunteers from Rotary Club of Westlake Village, Safe Passage Youth Foundation, the Conejo Valley Park and Recreation District and Art Trek. There was music, food, a bouncy house, art, crafts and a scavenger. All of which supported the peacebuilding and conflict resolution education to the students. Problem solving ideas to help the community, society as a whole, their school and home life were the focus of the day. If you ever have a chance to participate in such an event be prepared to be in awe of the effect something like this has the children and for that matter the volunteers.
KCLU also did a story on the event.
